Bakardadeak garaitu zituenak

Ikuskizun honek XIX. mendean eta XX.aren hasieran  Euskal Herriko herri askotatik artzain modura Ameriketara joan ziren herritarrak omendu nahi lituzke. Gehienek, zorionez, gogoz lan egin eta  bizitzan aurrera egin zuten. Baina denek ez zuten ondo amaitu.Ikuskizun hau dago oinarrituta, Gizaburuagako Txomin Malaxetxebarriaren kasuan.  1912an, 19 urte zituela, baserria utzi eta Paradisera (Nevada)  joan zen artzain

Desertuko bakardadeak bere nortasuna okerrerako aldatu zuten, guztiz zoratzeraino; gaixotu eta ospitaleratu egin zuten, eta han erizain bat eta beste gaixo bat hil zituen. 1952ko azaroan gas-ganbaran hil zuten, 58 urte zituela.

VENCIDOS POR LA SOLEDAD

Ante todo inmigración vasca a principios de 1900, cuando los vascos inmigrábamos por hambre y trabajo de las zonas rurales. El sistema de mayorazgo en los caseríos obligaba a que salvo el mayor que era el que se quedaba el caserío, el resto de los hermanos debían de buscarse la vida donde podían. Así, muchos se fueron para América. De un millón de habitantes que tenía por entonces Euskal Herria, unos doscientos mil se fueron a América. A unos les fue bien. Construyeron sus ranchos con buenos rebaños. Otros montaron distintos negocios con diferente suerte. Soledad, humor, drama, desesperación.

Un recuerdo a todos aquellos que fracasaron en su viaje al sueño americano, personalizado en la vida del pastor vasco Domingo Malaxetxebarria, natural de Gizaburuaga (Bizkaia) que terminó sus días en la cámara de gas en 1954.Tras muchas noches en soledad, cuidando de su rebaño de ovejas en los desiertos de Nevada, mes tras mes, año tras año, fue perdiendo la cabeza hasta convertirse en una persona agresiva. Por su carácter violento, los rancheros vascos dejaron de contratarle, terminando por pedir dinero en las calles de Paradisse (Nevada).

Al final mató a dos personas. Juzgado, fue condenado a morir en la cámara de gas, hecho que ocurrió en 1954.Nunca pudo volver a su casa.

SHOW (“FIGHTING AGAINST LONELINESS”)

Basque dances, improvising verses and songs.

This show would like to pay homage to the people from the region of Lea-Artibai (Ispaster, Amoroto, Gizaburuaga, Aulesti, Munitibar, Ereño, Gernika, Markina, Lekeitio…) as well as from many other towns in The Basque Country, who emigrated, as shepherds, to America (Boise, Nevada, California and other places in the EEUU) during the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Most of them, luckily, overcame all the obstackes they faced and had a healthy life, after working very hard as shepherds, and in other jobs that natives did not want to perform (Those were times of opportunity).

However, not everybody was dealt such good cards. In this show we wanted to focus on the latter ones. Those who did not succeed in their american venture. Some of them lost their minds, in the loneliness of the deserts, with their flocks of sheep. There were many who could not return to their homes.

This is the case of Txomin Malaxetxebarria, from Gizaburuaga (Bizkaia), who in 1912, when he was 19, left his farmhouse and went to Paradise (Nevada), to work as a shepherd. The loneliness of the desert and his difficult way of life worsened his character, leading him to insanity, to the extent where no one would hire him because of how troublesome he had become. He ended up begging on the streets and, in the end, he killed two people from a psychiatric hospital where he had been admitted. After a popular trial, he was sentenced to death and executed in the gas chamber, aged just 58.
